Jessica has worked at the heart of government, managing reputations and devising and implementing communications strategies for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Commission for Countering Extremism, an independent agency of the Home Office.
She managed the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s press office team responsible for corporate affairs, as well as press officers on the climate change, nuclear and renewable energy desks. She was also responsible for the PR team working on the department’s flagship campaign – the Industrial Strategy.
Before working in government, she spent nine years as The Guardian’s Education Correspondent writing front-page news stories, features and analysis articles. She was promoted to News Editor (Planning) and worked with correspondents of all specialisms, commissioning and editing their work.
Her expertise includes PR strategy, digital communications, external affairs, PR evaluation, media relations, stakeholder engagement, media training and crisis communications.
As a former national journalist now in communications, she has both an insider’s perspective on the angles the media take and a senior communications expert’s understanding of how to manage sensitive, high-profile issues.
