This awards season just keeps getting better for Barley!
Following on from our win with Hubbub, Ellipsis Earth and McDonald’s at the Better Society Awards in May, we were delighted that our work for anti-littering campaign, Neat Streets, was recognised at the Purpose Awards.
The campaign was awarded Best Environmental Cause Campaign (Collaboration) for its ground breaking approach to litter reduction, for which Ellipsis Earth used drone technology and AI to conduct the most scientifically robust litter survey ever in the UK.
This data was used to develop Hubbub’s litter-busting interventions, including the world’s first ‘disco bin’, to engage different target audiences and change a variety of littering behavioural trends.
Barley delivered a compelling media campaign to encourage positive behaviour change locally and raise awareness of the campaign nationally to inspire more local councils to follow suit.
The approach resulted in a phenomenal 75% reduction in litter in the survey area in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, with some locations achieving nearly 90% reductions.
Glasgow City Council has since committed to replicating the campaign and optimising its approach to waste management.
In addition to these two award wins, this work was shortlisted at the edie Sustainability Leaders Awards earlier in the year, marking one of Barley’s most successful awards performances since we started up.
As a purpose-driven agency where we pride ourselves on the impact and quality of our work, we are honoured to be a winner at the Purpose Awards after being judged alongside the best changemakers in the industry.
