As UK summers continue to break temperature records, visitors to Tower Bridge can look forward to a cooler experience thanks to a new heat-reducing treatment on its famous glass High-level Walkways above the Thames.

The innovative coating is being applied to the existing windows to help reduce solar heat entering the attraction during warmer weather, making visits more comfortable while preserving the spectacular panoramic views across London’s skyline.

The treatment rejects up to 95% of infrared radiation and blocks up to 96% of UV rays, all while maintaining the crystal-clear views that make Tower Bridge one of the capital’s must-visit attractions.

Chris Earlie, Director of Tower Bridge, said:

“We want every visitor to have the best possible experience when they explore inside Tower Bridge, whatever the weather. As London continues to experience warmer summers, this investment will help visitors to enjoy our High-level Walkways in greater comfort during periods of hot weather while, importantly, preserving the spectacular views and the historic character that make Tower Bridge such a memorable day out.”

A visit inside Tower Bridge’s High-level Walkways also offers visitors the chance to step onto the Glass Floors suspended 42 metres above the River Thames. When timed right, that means being able to witness one of the spectacular Bridge Lifts from a unique, birds-eye perspective. Visitors can then head down to explore the fascinating Victorian Engine Rooms and discover the remarkable story of how one of London’s most recognisable landmarks has been operating for more than 130 years.

The specialist removable treatment has been carefully selected as a heritage-sensitive retrofit solution that improves the visitor experience within the walkways without altering the appearance or the character of the historic structure.

Nathan Jones, Founder and CEO at Restoreo, added:

“This project demonstrates how historic buildings can be adapted for a changing climate without compromising their heritage. By enhancing the performance of Tower Bridge’s existing glazing, we’re helping to create a more comfortable experience for the thousands of people who explore inside Tower Bridge every year.”

Tower Bridge ticket prices have also been reduced for the summer as part of the government’s Great British Summer Savings initiative to help families enjoy more affordable days out over the holidays. From 25 June until 1 September, tickets cost £15.80 per adult (usually £18), £7.90 per child (usually £9) and family tickets are available from £28.40.
